News: Debunking Capital Campaign Myths on Nonprofit Hub Radio

News: Debunking Capital Campaign Myths on Nonprofit Hub Radio

Capital Campaign Pro’s Amy Eisenstein, ACFRE, and Sarah Plimpton recently joined Meghan Speer on Nonprofit Hub Radio to discuss common misconceptions about capital campaigns and what nonprofit leaders and board members need to know to achieve fundraising success.

In the episode, Capital Campaign Myths, Amy and Sarah shared practical insights from their experience helping nonprofits plan and carry out successful capital campaigns. They explored why strong preparation, realistic expectations, and engaged board leadership are essential to raising transformational gifts.

The conversation focused on several persistent myths that can derail campaigns before they even begin. From misunderstanding the purpose of feasibility studies to expecting board members to simply ask their friends for money, Amy and Sarah explained how nonprofits can replace outdated assumptions with proven fundraising strategies.

They also discussed the importance of the quiet phase, when organizations typically secure the majority of their campaign commitments before publicly announcing their fundraising efforts.

Key topics included:

  • Common capital campaign myths that can undermine fundraising success
  • Why feasibility studies are essential planning tools, not simply tests of whether a campaign is possible
  • The importance of the quiet phase and securing major gifts before going public
  • How board members can contribute to a campaign beyond asking for money
  • Why disciplined planning and donor engagement are critical to campaign success
  • How nonprofits can regain momentum when a campaign stalls
  • The importance of aligning board members and staff around a shared campaign strategy

The conversation also reinforced themes from Amy and Sarah’s recently released book, A Board Member’s Guide to Capital Campaign Fundraising: How to Raise Game-Changing Money for Your Nonprofit. Written specifically for nonprofit board members, the book provides a practical roadmap for understanding the campaign process, engaging major donors, and approaching ambitious fundraising goals with confidence.

At Capital Campaign Pro, we believe successful campaigns begin with informed leadership, thoughtful preparation, and strong donor relationships. By challenging common misconceptions and helping board members understand their roles, nonprofits can build the confidence and structure needed to achieve ambitious fundraising goals.

We’re grateful to Meghan Speer and Nonprofit Hub Radio for the opportunity to share these insights with nonprofit professionals and board members.
